D23 First Day: Images of new Splash Mountain and a teaser for The Little Mermaid
The one convention I've always wanted to attend, D23, started today and my goodness did they drop a lot of new trailers and announcements for upcoming Disney and Pixar films. Not only that but changes coming to Disneyland and DCA (more on that Sunday). And while this is only day one (Marvel and Star Wars are getting more announcements this weekend) let's break it down what Disney and Pixar goodies we can expect.
The first big announcement - Inside Out will be getting a sequel. Amy Poehler will be returning as the voice of Joy but this time will be helping navigate the mind of a teenager. Even though the film is in the early stages of production, we'll see it hit theaters in 2024.
Disenchanted, the sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted starring Amy Adams, had its first official trailer drop. The original cast returns but with a whole new story as Giselle wishes her life, in reality, was more like a fairy tale and she of course gets what she wished for. This time though, Maya Rudolph joins the cast as possibly the baddie? Either way, who isn't excited to see James Marsden act like our handsome Prince Edward? This will hit Disney+ just in time for Thanksgiving on November 24.
The final trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 also made its debut, giving us a little more details on the film that's set to stream on Disney+ on Sept 30. We also got a look at a Ted Lasso favorite, Hannah Waddingham AKA Rebecca as the witch who gave the Sanderson sisters the booOOOk!
Disney also finally released a teaser for The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, and no matter your opinion, you have to agree that her voice is phenomenal. This is set to be released in theaters on Memorial Day of next year.Disney and Pixar also gave fans a first look at Wish, the new film coming out next summer starring Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, as well as a poster for Elemental, another Disney and Pixar movie coming next year. They also announced their film for 2024, Elio, about an 11-year-old boy who is beamed into space and mistaken as the Ambassador to Earth. Give it a chance, as it'll be directed by the same director who did Coco.
