All things Marvel announcements at D23
Yesterday at D23 was loaded with new trailers, announcements of new shows, and cast announcements. Oh my goodness the trailers and seeing Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio (hoping I land his panel at FanX) took the stage to talk about Daredevil: Reborn. There were obviously a ton of announcements so we'll just talk about the highlights and my favorite things.
The one announcement that took me off guard was the trailer for Werewolf By Night. If you're a fan of scary/horror films like me this trailer may pique your interest. Even though Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness was the first Marvel horror film, this “presentation” is shot entirely in black and white and pays homage to the 30s and 40s style of horror films. The trailer gives a real The Shining vibe with a taste of all those old horror films. Please don’t mess this up, Marvel. This is set to stream on Disney+ on Oct 8, perfect for the witching season!
The next action packed series since Captain America and The Winter Soldier that Marvel gave us a glimpse into at D23 was Secret Invasion! The series brings back some of our Marvel favorites like Samuel L Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle, and introduces new stars like Oscar winner Olivia Coleman and Game Of Thrones, Emilia Clarke. This is a series I'm excited to share more about because it's a Marvel story that I feel needs more love as it has probably been a part of the franchise since Age of Ultron (I think).
Even though this film has been announced, we'll get to see Anthony Mackie, AKA Sam Wilson for the first time as Captain America in his own movie Captain America: New World Order. One of the fun announcements that came around this besides the fabulous cast was the return of Tim Blake Nelson (Dr. Pendanski from Holes) as the leader, a character we were introduced to in The Incredible Hulk (2008). We'll see this movie in theaters on May 3, 2024.
Now the one that made me squeal with glee - Thunderbolts! I've been curious about Julia Louis-Dreyfus character, Val, and where the heck that story was going after she spoke with Yelena in Black Widow and the U.S Agent at the end of Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Val is gathering a team of troubled souls with an edge and... well... we'll see what becomes of them next year on July 26. Feige commented, "it tells you a lot about a team when beloved Winter Soldier is the most stable among them." This show marks the return of those cast members above, including David Harbour (The Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), and of course Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes).
More was shared about Wakanda Forever that will hit theaters next month, The Marvels with Brie Larson and Iman Vellani, Fantastic Four which will be directed by Matt Shakman same director as Multiverse of Madness, and new footage from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
