Who is Karen Page?

Looking back on Daredevil, I wish journalism was as exciting as Karen Page made it look. But before she became a top journalist in New York, Karen actually had a dark past. Because the MCU isn't exactly following what her story is in the comics, we're going to stick with the MCU's story.

In short: Karen was originally supposed to be just Matt and Foggy's secretary but became a part of the team and eventually evolved into a top journalist who helped take down Fisk.

Before moving to the city, she worked with her dad and brother, running a family restaurant in a small town, after their mother died. She dropped out of school to help them out but was bored and started to sell drugs in the small town with her boyfriend.

One evening when her father had announced he had enrolled her back in college, after realizing what this small-town life and her boyfriend were doing to her, she became upset and drove off to find her boyfriend, who both got very high and drunk. When they returned to his trailer, Karen's little brother was burning it. To get him away from her violent boyfriend, she got her little brother in her car and sped off. She drove too fast and ended up killing her brother in an accident. After that, her father asked her to leave, ashamed of what happened and due to the fact the sheriff kept her name out of the incident.

She went off to New York City to prove herself and to turn her life around. She ended up meeting Matt
and Foggy when they offered to be her lawyers after Karen had gotten wrapped up in a murder she didn't commit but that Wilson Fisk had staged. To pay Matt and Foggy back, she agreed to work as their secretary at Nelson and Murdock without pay. In this role, Karen developed a talent for finding information and digging into properties and those that owned them, finding connections between them and Wilson Fisk. She was kidnapped a couple times but always managed to either get away or get saved by Daredevil.

When Foggy and Matt have their falling out, Karen becomes friends with a top reporter at The New York Bulletin named Ben Urich, after she helped him the way she would help Foggy and Matt. When Ben was murdered for writing about Fisk's past, who personally killed him, the editor recognized her talent and offered her a job at The Bulletin. With her journalism powers and "no fear" attitude, she wrote compelling pieces and told truths when other journalists were either too scared to or were being paid off by Wilson Fisk to fake the news. She would also write the truth about the murder of Frank Castle's (The Punisher's) family. Because of her stories on Fisk, she was again a target for the bad guys, including Fisk, who sent Ben Poindexter to try and kill her. He failed in doing this but his story arch led him to become what the comics know him for as Bullseye. More on him later. At the end, when Foggy and Matt make amends, the three (with the knowledge and talents they possess) successfully take down Wilson Fisk again, then create their new law firm called "Franklin, Page, and Nelson."

Overall Karen is awesome and like I said at the beginning, she makes journalism look a lot cooler than it actually is. She sees a lot of dark things while working with Foggy and Matt, but it's because she's willing to get her hands dirty to find the truth. She's strong and a female character that needs to be shown more.
