Can We Talk About Disney+ Day?
So, Disney+ is loaded with some fun new movies and shows to stream, including - Enchanted, Ciao Alberto, Olaf Presents, The Jungle Cruise, Shang Chi, more of The World According To Jeff Goldblum and they even put a short called The Little Matchgirl, which will just leave you in tears because that story is so sad. You'll want to check out the minute inside look of Obi-Wan with Ewan McGregor, and the other inside look at the Boba Fett series set to be released December 29th, and probably skip Home Sweet Home Alone because I've only heard bad things about it. But aside from these new releases, Disney announced upcoming projects and details on projects we have known about for some time. So let's dive into some of the highlights and details of some of these announcements.
Hocus Pocus 2 - Some of you asked if it's true, and IT IS! Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are back as the Sanderson sisters. The story is set 30 years after Max, Allison, and Danny put them back in their grave, but now there are three new high schoolers who have to stop them before daylight. The zombie Billy Butcherson will make a reappearance along with some new stars set to be a part of the cast, including Tony Hale (Veep, Arrested Development), Sam Richardson (Veep), and more! This movie is set to come out in fall 2022.
Cheaper By The Dozen 2 - I'm only mentioning this because Zach Braff (Scrubs) is going to be in it and that's all I care about.
Spider-Man Freshman Year - Well we never got a Tom Holland Spider-Man origin story so Spider-Man Freshman Year (an animated series) will take us into his story on how he became Spider-Man since we were first introduced to him in Captain America: Civil War post Uncle Ben dying and Peter getting bit by a radioactive spider. There's no set date for the release of this series, or an announcement of who will be voicing spidey/Peter. Moon Knight - We are now roping Oscar Issac (Star Wars, Dune) into the MCU with Moon Knight! Issac will be playing Marc Spector who believes he's a human avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu.
They released a short teaser on Disney+ you can watch, that will give you a glimpse into the new vigilante that will soon join our list of favorite heroes in the MCU...maybe...
Echo - the Hawkeye spin-off is about a deaf Native American superhero who is an amazing fighter, who learned her movies from heroes like Daredevil. I'm sure we'll learn more about Echo come the Hawkeye series coming out this month! I'm counting down the day, are you?
Secret Invasion - This mini-series is set to enter our Disney+ streaming service on January 15 of next year. Samuel L Jackson will reprise his role of Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise his role of Talos. Remember at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming when it's revealed Nick Fury and Maria Hill were actually Skrulls? Well if you've read the comics, at this point in the MCU, Skrulls have basically been taking on different human forms, living among us without our knowledge known as the "secret invasion." I'm super excited about this series!I Am Groot - Another kids show about Groot, little Groot, and his growing up in outer space. That's about all we know about this series.
Cars On The Road - I know my little one is going to love this series. Owen Wilson and Larry TheCable Guy will be voicing the characters of Lightning McQueen and Mater as they go on a cross-country road trip and meet new friends and have some laughs. How long is Disney going to ride the Cars ride? This movie franchise has done so well. This is set to be released in the fall of 2022.
There were a lot of other announcements made like She-Hulk (the name speaks for itself), Iron Heart (a female version of Iron Man) What If... season 2, Agatha House of Harkness (yes that Agatha from WandaVision), X-Men '97 a reprisal of the 90's X-Men series, and Disenchanted which is a sequel to a fan favorite Enchanted. But do check out the other announcements, Disney is giving us a firehose of new content coming out next year!
