Who is Daredevil AKA Matt Murdock?

I'm sorry if y'all haven't seen the new Spider-Man yet, but it's been almost a month and it's time to spoil everything. For me, the greatest moment in watching that movie was FINALLY seeing Matt Murdock become an official member of the MCU!!! Don't get me wrong, I squealed with joy seeing Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, but I love the Daredevil series and am so excited I get to see more Matt Murdock in future films and Disney+ series.

Why are we talking Daredevil AKA Matt Murdock? As the hubby and I went and saw Spider-Man: No Way Home opening weekend, I heard a few people in the audience whisper to their friends "who's that guy?" when Matt appeared on the screen.

The most entertaining way for you to learn more about him is to watch the Daredevil series on Netflix (viewer discretion advised). Or you can read this description and short bio of who he is.

In short: Matt is a blind lawyer who doubles as a vigilante overnight called Daredevil. He uses his blindness to enhance his other senses, making him a super awesome hero.

Matt Murdock is a full-on New Yorker and a good Catholic boy! Born in Hell's Kitchen, he was raised by his dad after his mother (who had post-partum) left him. Matt was born able to see, but after a freak accident where he saved a truck driver from a chemical spill, he lost his eyesight. He learned quickly how to adapt. His dad was murdered later after not throwing a boxing match. He did this so Matt would have the opportunity to hear the name "Murdock" be chanted. It was very sweet and sad all at the same time. But as sweet as that was, the gangsters that his dad screwed over, shot him - a gunshot that young Matt heard.

Matt was then sent to be raised as an orphan at the Catholic church where he developed ways to argue with people but in a smart way. He built a bond with the father of the parish who really was a father figure to him. Later, Matt learned how to use his blindness to become an awesome fighter, learning how to use his other senses to hear space between objects, sounds from people blocks away, and smell cologne and food someone ate hours ago. He learned all this from a guy named Stick who is also blind, but Matt didn't want to join his little army of child fighters so he ditched him and became a lawyer. But Matt couldn't help but want to help people at night, after hearing so many people suffering. So he dawned the Daredevil suit and became... well... Daredevil.

Another thing we need to talk about is Kingpin AKA Wilson Fisk who was introduced to us in Hawkeye (but really we were introduced to him in Daredevil). Wilson Fisk in the Daredevil series has been the big baddie, as he owns the police and politicians in Hell's Kitchen by finding their weak spots and threatening family members if he doesn't do what he asks. To take him down, Matt Murdock has had to use his Daredevil life and lawyer life, which for me is what makes Matt Murdock such an awesome hero - he doesn't believe in killing, he uses his brains and brawns to take down his villains and he's so human.

Anyway, I would encourage everyone to watch The Defender series, but especially Daredevil, it's seriously the best, and you'll be able to join the movie theater crowd next time you see an appearance from him in the future MCU films and Disney+ series.
